I saw the first Star Wars movie about ten times, so needless to say I love the Star Wars audio books! I was in junior high and thought this had to be the best movie I’d ever seen. The special effects were incredible, and of course I wanted to be Hans Solo! (I secretly still do, but don’t tell anyone!) So when the Star Wars audio books became available, I couldn’t wait to buy them. My kids love listening to these also. The Star Wars audio books have been great for some long family trips in the car! Following are three of my favorite Star Wars audio books.
Star Wars – A New Hope
Even though the title was different when the original Star Wars movie came out, Star Wars – A New Hope is the audio version of that classic movie. If you are going to invest in Star Wars audio books, you definitely want this one. The first time I listened to this I was absolutely amazed that a movie known for its phenomenal visual effects could actually work so well in audio format. While the voices aren’t done by the original actors, they are very well done and you quickly don’t even realize it. The audio version uses the sound effects and musical score from the original movie, so I felt like I was a kid again watching it on the big screen. The first time I listened to this I had my popcorn and soda just to make it perfect!
Free Star Wars Audio Books
A real bonus in the Star Wars audio books is that some of them, like this one, actually expand a bit on the story line, filling in some minor gaps from the movie version. For example it provides some background on several of the secondary characters, which was really interesting. If you are a Star Wars fan like me, this is a must have to start your Star Wars audio books collection!
Star Wars, Episode I – The Phantom Menace
Number two on my list of must have Star Wars audio books is The Phantom Menace.
While I enjoyed the movie, I really love this audio version because it provides a lot of background on Anakin Skywalker, the primary character. The movie left much of that out. It also reveals more about how he learned to fly, and has a few other additions which really help give insight about his character. This is one of the main reasons it is one of my favorite Star Wars audio books.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Wild Space
Third on my list of especially enjoyable Star Wars audio books is Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Wild Space. Again, this audio version provides excellent insight into characters that really add to the story. It has less action and a different feel than the other Star Wars audio books, but I particularly like this one because I felt I really got to know Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was one of my favorite Star Wars heroes.
Like me, my children loved the movies and have really enjoyed listening to the Star Wars audio books. Sometimes it’s hard to get them to stop listening in order to do their home work and chores! If you have children the Star Wars audio books are a great gift for them. But you don’t need kids as an excuse to buy them…they’re great for kids of all ages so go ahead and treat yourself!
